Sweden’s Left Bloc Holds Narrow Lead in Tight Election Race
The Social Democrats, Green Party, Left Party and Center Party are projected to secure 175 seats in the 349-member parliament, while the Moderate Party, Sweden Democrats, Christian Democrats and Liberals are expected to take 174 seats.
The extremely narrow difference means the final balance could still shift as additional ballots are counted and the official results take shape.
An exit poll showed the four parties on the left receiving a combined 51.3% of the vote, compared with 46.8% for the parties forming the right-wing bloc.
The Social Democrats remain the largest individual party, attracting 27.6% of support. However, their projected result is below the 30.3% they recorded in the previous parliamentary election.
The Moderate Party is forecast to place second with 19.8%, while the Sweden Democrats follow closely with 17.2%.
